Pure gold is called fine gold and has an intensive yellow colour and is very soft. The alloy is designated as 999/1000. In order to get a wearable alloy, fine gold is fused with copper and silver. This is how the wedding rings get the necessary hardness.
Christian Bauer makes only the alloys 750/1000 (18 karat) and 585/1000 (14 carat). The 14 karat alloy can be recognized visually by its slightly lighter colouring and is popular in certain markets.
Wedding rings made of gold are very kind to the skin, however for people who are extremely sensitive we recommend they use 18 karat gold because there is less copper in the alloy.
There are four colours of gold that Christian Bauer makes, that are the result of the different composed alloys. Wedding rings can be produced in 750/1000 (18 karat) gold as well as in 585/1000 (14 karat) gold:
Yellow gold: Intensive gold colour
White gold (no rhodium coating): Dark Grey, darker than Platinum. Christian Bauer uses a high palladium content for colour and hardness – 17%.
White gold (rhodium coated): White, similar appearance to Platinum
Red gold: Intensive red. (This will be only produced in 14ct gold by Christian Bauer because a high copper content is needed to obtain the red colour)
Rose gold: Discreet yellow-red colour
